Last month, Year 10 pupils represented Studley High School in the University of Birmingham Big Maths Quiz.
Schools from across Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire and Worcestershire were represented.
The event consisted of a number of rounds played against more than 40 other teams. There were some excellent problem solving questions including one round which was in the form of “move two matchsticks in this shape to leave two equilateral triangles” and another require excellent estimating abilities to answer questions like “how many metal discs are there on the Bull at the Bull Ring”. After a close fought contest 3 teams were tied in first place at the end of the rounds and had to answer a tie breaker question – “how many audience seats are there at the Birmingham Symphony Hall”.
During the lunch break students were able to explore the University of Birmingham and have lunch with the undergraduate students.
Although Studley High School were not placed in the top 3, an enjoyable and interesting day was had by our pupils who were wonderful representatives of Studley High School.
