Studley High Teacher Wins Regional Inspiring History Award

Mrs Smith has been named the Central England winner of the inaugural Inspiring History Award, recognising teaching that is “exciting, inclusive and meaningful.”

The award, organised by Historic Royal Palaces and the Historical Association, is judged by experts including historian Lucy Worsley. Mrs Smith was shortlisted after submitting schemes of work, classroom resources and evidence of her teaching, with judges particularly praising her Witch Trials activity based on 17th-century colonial America.

Mrs Smith is one of ten regional winners and has attended a ceremony at the Tower of London on 20 June, where the overall UK winner was announced.

As part of the award, a filmmaker recently visited Studley High to capture lessons and student views on history teaching. A Year 8 class was filmed exploring Victorian women’s rights, with students in costume re-enacting a real divorce case from the 19th century.
