Safeguarding at Studley High School
Studley High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Safeguarding is about ensuring that everyone is safe from harm, safe from bullying, safe from abuse of any kind, safe from discrimination or harassment and ensuring that we all feel safe in our school environment.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website. Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Whole School Policy is referred to as Studley Safe PLACES.
There are 6 main elements to our Whole School Policy – Studley Safe PLACES, these include:
Policy We ensure that our Policies are updated and current in-line with KCSIE updates. Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policies are working documents which are ratified by Governors. Ensuring we practice safe recruitment in checking the suitability of staff and volunteers to work with children.
Leadership and Oversight We have a dedicated team who have all received in-depth safeguarding training to ensure that we:
- Identify children who may need early help, are at risk or have been harmed
- Secure the help that children need and refer them to the expertise to help them
- Manage safer recruitment and allegations about adults who may be of risk to children
- Follow procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases of abuse.
Active Culture including Training We raise awareness of child protection issues & working on the prevention of abuse, through training, teaching and pastoral support offered to students. We prepare all staff with the tools they need to recognise types of abuse and provide them with a reporting system which is swift and effective. Training to-date has included:-
- Prevent Training – Contextualised inc. Radicalisation and Extremism
- Mental Health Awareness
- E-Safety including Filtering and Monitoring
- SEND and Bullying
- Early Help contextual
- Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment
- Studley Safe Places – Whole School Approach
- Low Level Concerns and Self-Referral
- Adverse Childhood Experiences – ACES training
Curriculum Supporting students with their understanding of abuse and how to protect themselves through adolescence can have it’s challenges. We have implemented a wholesale programme aimed at raising awareness
Engagement of Parents We actively raise awareness of contextual Safeguarding and Child Protection issues in our local area to our parent body through the following:-
- Links to the school Safeguarding and Early Help and On-line safety information page
- Working alongside external agencies in supporting families through disclosures. Eg Sexually related or abuse related incidents
- E-Safety workshop
- Regular contemporary safety updates and newsletterseg Dangers of TikTok
- Parent Safeguarding Working Party (Dec 23) – to raise concerns and awareness of Safeguarding in the community
Student Voice Establishing a safe environment in which children can learn and develop. Providing opportunities for students to discuss and learn about risk and protective behaviours, which include:-
How do you make sure that students are safe?
- How are students encouraged to live and act safely?
- What mechanisms are in place for students to report incidents of sexual harassment or other harmful sexual behaviour?
- Enabling students to identify areas of the school where they may feel more vulnerable, through student surveys etc
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our students are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
