Key Stage 4 Resistant Materials. OCR.

Building from KS3. All students follow a two year course leading to a Design Technology Resistant Materials examination.

Topics include:

• Skills development in working and joining- metals, wood and plastics.
• Product evaluation/analysis.
• Materials knowledge.
• Research and development.
• Tools and equipment.
• Modelling.
• Process knowledge.
• Drawing and rendering skills.

Assessment
The main purpose of the assessment scheme is to allow candidates to demonstrate what they know, understand and can do, in relation to their development of their Design Technology capability.

There are two elements
1) Coursework 60%. This takes the form of a design folder and realisation of the design.
2) Examination 40%. This is an externally assessed examination in two parts. The first paper covers the process of designing and making. The second paper covers knowledge and understanding.

Candidates are entered for either Foundation Tier (G to C) or Higher Tier (D to *A)
