The Department offers an extensive extra-curricular programme which is extremely popular, with a large number of our pupils regularly participating. We have successful school teams in netball, football, basketball, rounders, cricket, tennis and cross country. Each year individual pupils continue to gain representive honours in different sports.

Physical Education at Studley High School provides the opportunity for the pupils to develop their knowledge and understanding of a variety of activities whilst acquiring and developing the skills necessary for participating in them.

B E L L B O A T I N G at Arrow Valley Lake

delivered by Y O U T H A F L O A T

18 Students from a Year 11 GCSE PE Group arrived at the lakeside full of apprehension at the activity deemed as a reward for their good work throughout the year. What could be positive about this activity on a cold spring morning? What could be appealing about drifting out onto the icy cold waters?

After dressing up in the elegant and sophisticated wetsuits with the stylish helmets and buoyancy aids, the reluctant crew climbed into their craft. As they paddled onto the lake they enjoyed the idea of spraying each other with water. With boats tied together, the fun and games were about to commence. Students were asked to stand up in the boat and then change places; large balls were passed from one to another and before too long the first body plunged into the icy depths followed in hot pursuit by many more.

It was a great experience and enjoyed by all.

Autumn 2007

The first ever Primary School Tournaments took place in the autumn term at the High School. There were Football events for Year 1/2 & Year 5/6 and Netball for Year 3/4 & Year 5/6. The organization was the responsibility of the Sports Captains with support from some of their peers.

Pupils from the schools competed in some friendly matches with certificates and trophies being presented. As a result of such an enthusiastic response from participants it is intended to run the events again next year.

Thanks to all schools for organising their teams and to the Sports Captains for organising such a splendid event.

JUJUTSU

Some well-behaved pupils from Y7 & Y8 were specially selected to benefit from taster sessions of Jujutsu which were taken by Ross a highly-qualified trainer from a club at Arrow Vale School in Redditch.

All the students enjoyed this opportunity to try something new and some were eager to join the Jujutsu club.

TEAM COMBAT

Sam from Energie Fitness Club in Redditch delivered a fun, action-packed activity which was enjoyed by pupils in Years 7, 8 & 9. Pupils were chosen for this activity as a reward for always being well-behaved and for working hard.

A further benefit from these taster sessions was that all High School staff were offered a free day pass to Energie Fitness Club; encouraging staff to be active as well as pupils.

ROWING

Pupils from Studley High were delighted to be able to experience Rowing when they borrowed 8 rowing machines, from the Partnership, for a two week period. This has given 750 pupils a chance to take part in this exciting and energetic activity. Josh Rogers took the challenge even further and has considered joining Evesham Rowing Club on a trial basis.

RUGBY & TAG RUGBY

Year 7 pupils competed against a number of other local schools in a contact rugby event held by Alcester Rugby Football Club. The boys fought well and enjoyed the muddy experience achieving well but not in one of the leading positions.

Hopefully with continued support from the club and some training sessions to be delivered at school, then we look forward to even more success next year.

DANCE CELEBRATION

This successful evening Celebration event organised by Miss Struthers, on 31st January 2008, included pupils from all Years at the High School alongside a number of pupils from three of our local Primary schools.
