"This is an outstanding academy" - Ofsted November 2011

The Department of English consists of seven specialist teachers - all of whom have Qualified Teacher Status; learners benefit from outstanding subject-specialist staff with a diverse range of specific interests. Media is delivered as a discrete option, delivered by a team of enthusiastic specialists. We are extremely proud of our outstanding attainment and are ‘always aiming higher’ (89% English Language A*-C 2011).
The Department of English strives to inspire learners to enjoy and question literature of all genres and appreciate language use in all its myriad forms. We seek to widen the learners’ experience of all forms of literature and language use from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
We endeavour to improve the learners’ own writing and ability to communicate to a variety of audiences and in a range of contexts, developing functional English and independent thinking skills.

Our wealth of extracurricular activities aims to further develop the whole learner and celebrate the abilities within all of our students, fulfilling our philosophy of ‘enjoy and achieve’.

The Department of English is proud to have a Lead Teacher for Functional Skills; we are privileged to be a lead APP Department in Warwickshire (Assessing Pupil Progress).
